Isaiah Young said his trip to Laramie this weekend was a very pleasant surprise. The 6-foot-3, 183-pound wideout from Vista Peak High School in the Denver area said he had been to Laramie before but had not seen near as much previously as he did on Saturday. The result - Wyoming has raised its profile with Young.

"I liked it a lot more than I though I would. I am not going lie," Young said Sunday. "I had been there once and only seen part of the campus. When I saw the actual campus and the programs and everything else I was impressed. The last time I was here I didn't see the field they played on, I had just seen the practice field. This time I saw their field, I met the coaches, I liked the staff, I liked the way they play."

Young, who is a four-sport star, rushed for 625 yards, caught passes for another 923 and ended the season with 129 tackles and two interceptions. He has been clocked in the 40-yard dash at 4.9 and is hearing routinely from Wyoming, Nebraska and Colorado.

"I like to describe myself as an athlete and someone who tries to get things done," Young said. "I would say my main positions are wide receive and safety. Wyoming is recruiting as both. They are just asking what I would prefer to play and I said wide receiver."

Young has previously been to visit Colorado and Nebraska. This weekend it was his turn to check out the Cowboys and new coach Craig Bohl.

"I got in to Laramie around 10:30 and then I met with all the coaches," Young said. "I know my position coach and I met with the head coach and talked about what it would be like up there. It isn't going to be a place where they get you riled up to go there and then it isn't what you expect.

"They were straight-forward. They just explained that I am there to get my grades, my degree and play football. If I was there to party and not watch my grades, this wasn't going to be the school for me."

"I just liked the school in general," he added. "I liked that it was different than what I thought it was. That excited me."

Young said he is looking for an education first and foremost and then the best athletic program he can find. He said if he finds that package close to home, it is a bonus, otherwise distance isn't a big concern.

For now, Young will hit the camp circuit this summer - he has not decided which camps to attend yet - and probably make a decision sometime during his senior year.

"I have to wait for the ACT scores to come back, so I am not sure what schools will be looking at me," Young said. "Until that happens, I'll keep my options open."
