Cowgirls lost 48-57. They led in the first quarter, but it was downhill from there. It was a difficult game for me to watch. Sort of reminded me of the Cowgirls NCAA game where they looked lost and were outplayed. The NCAA NET rankings (used to be RPI) ranked Wyoming at 104 and Wichita State as 153, so according the rankings, we should have beat this team. I thought that Wichita may have been bigger, but in looking at their roster, they weren't taller, just thicker, and yet they still moved well up and down the court.
Looked like a lack of confidence in the Cowgirls play today, and I don't know what was up with Tommi Olsen, but she had a terrible ball-hog day. She is at her best when she constantly moves/passes the ball and doesn't shoot. It seemed like she wasn't seeing the court as well as usual, but other players need to help by getting open. Only one steal for Tommi on D. Quinn had only 4 points, well below her normal. She was heavily guarded, but Wichita D was very good and quick to move on anyone with double and triple teaming at times. Need to get out of those situations, find an open player, or find a way to shoot if you want to be competitive. I would say that Wichita played the type of scrappy ball that I'm used to seeing from the Cowgirls.
Not sure what the zone D was about for the Cowgirls since WS was hitting their wide open threes. It seemed very ineffective.
The only positive will be if they learn something from this game.
