The Wyoming coaching staff under 3rd year head man Craig Bohl continues to make recruiting inroads into the Nebraska High School ranks, the area they set as a higher priority compared to the last few UW coaching tenures.
A 2017 prospect on the Pokes' Cornhusker State radar is Lincoln East (Neb.) offensive lineman Chris Walker, a 6-foot-6 and 270 pound player.
Walker has yet to receive an offer from the Cowboys, though a visit to the Wyoming camp in Laramie from June 12th to the 15th will be an opportunity to pick one up, as he looks to be closing on the hopeful scholarship from UW.
"Right now, I have scholarships from South Dakota State and South Dakota," said Walker. "The Wyoming offensive line coach (Scott Fuchs) was in today and watched me lift weights."
Walker says he's going to continue to work hard to build himself into a better player heading into his senior season and already has a planned process.
"I'm in the process of adding muscle, strength, and size," Walker said. "I was up to 298 pounds and then went down to 240 pounds to reduce my fat and add muscle. Now I'm up to 270 pounds."
Walker lives about 15 minutes from the University of Nebraska's Memorial Stadium and attends games regularly. The Cowboys will play in Lincoln on September 10th and a potential chance for the big tackle to check out one of the schools recruiting him.
"I'm a big college football fan and like Nebraska, and actually attended their last home game," said Walker. "We usually drive there and tailgate and get into the action on Saturday. Go to quite a bit of games."
Walker has two offers from South Dakota and South Dakota State and plays both sides of the ball in high school including defensive tackle, while mostly being recruited by colleges as an offensive tackle.
