Some players are recruited on high school production and others on potential due to their physical gifts. Gothenburg (Neb.) offensive tackle Tanner Borchardt seems to offer a little of both.

"I run block pretty well and I can move fairly decent," Borchardt. "The coaches like that I have one of the better bodies to build on. They can see potential in me."

The 6-foot-7, 266-pounder is more than just potential. Borchardt was named All-State Class B for Nebraska after helping his Gothenburg squad to an 8-3 mark and an appearance in the state semifinals. In addition to his work on the football field, Borchardt is also the Nebraska State Champion in the shot put, fourth place winner in the Class B discus and was an Honorable Mention All-State basketball player.

Those physical gifts and a strong camp performance have recently led to a scholarship offer from the University of Wyoming, and Borchardt has the Pokes solidly in his top three.

"They are probably in the top two or three," Borchardt said. "It would be Wyoming, Colorado State, and Nebraska - if they offered me."

Borchardt's scholarship offer list currently contains Colorado State, Liberty, Illinois State, South Dakota State, Ohio and Wyoming. Borchardt was told by his home state Huskers that they would decide whether to offer after seeing his senior highlight tape.

This summer Borchardt was in Laramie for a team camp and liked what he saw.

"I thought it was pretty neat, all the stuff we saw," Borchardt said. "I liked the way the coaches interacted with us. Laramie is town of 20 or 30 thousand, so it is not a huge town, but it is not a tiny town. I enjoyed my time up there.

"The coaches offered me a scholarship and told me they like what they saw and the liked the potential I have. They said they liked the way I moved and they would like to see me playing for them for the next four years."

Since coming to Wyoming, head coach Craig Bohl has made a point to recruit the Cornhusker State and his time at Nebraska has helped him open those doors. In addition to his ties as a Husker fan to Bohl, Borchardt said he has another connection to the head man in Laramie - his sister and Bohl's daughter used to play soccer together.

Borchardt said he does not yet have a timeline for when he would like to make a decision about his college choice. He said he would likely visit Colorado State soon.

"I haven't been up there, but I will go up there for a visit," he said. "I have talked to the offensive line coach a couple times and he seems excited to get me up there. I've been up to Fort Collins multiple times and it is a gorgeous city. I haven't been on-campus, but I hear it is terrific, so I am looking forward getting out there too."
