Granite Bay (Calif.) High School athlete scholarship offers, he also has his choice of positions to play on the field.
"I don't have a preference whether I play offense or defense," Keeney said. "Wyoming wants me to play defense, Idaho and Eastern Washington want offense and San Jose and and Sac State want time to play where ever I want."
Keeney said he accounted for around 40 tackles last season, two interceptions and one touchdown defensively. He said he was used as a blocking tight end on offense in some running sets, but didn't catch any passes last year for the State Champion, Granite Bay.
"I think I have a good instincts and good at reacting to the ball and finding it defensively," Keeney said.
College coaches must agree if you consider the scholarship offers from Sacramento State, Eastern Washington, San Jose State, Idaho and Wyoming. He said he has also been visited by coaches from Colorado, Oregon, Washington and San Diego State.
"I just want to go somewhere that I feel comfortable and at home," Keeney said. "I just want to be comfortable with the campus, the coaches and the academics. That is what I am looking for.
"Location isn't that big of a deal. It would be nice to stay close to home, but it is the school, not the location."
Keeney said he is likely going to let the recruiting process go slowly and wait for more scholarship offers. He did say he has enjoyed his time with Wyoming Defensive Line Coach Jamar Cain.
"I have talked to all of their coaches, especially Coach Cain," Keeney said. "I have talked to him a couple times in person. I really like him. He just wants me to play on the edge, rush a bit, maybe drop back in coverage."
