Sometimes the first scholarship offer is the sweetest and for Jabari Butler, the first offer came last Wednesday from the University of Wyoming. The Cowboys offered the 5-foot-11, 170-pound cornerback a scholarship after a season having Butler collect 25 tackles, three interceptions and one fumble recovery.

The Las Vegas prep said he called Wyoming secondary coach David Brown when he got the good news.

"I called him up and he offered me," Butler said. "He said he liked my tape. I had good speed, ball skills and I was a good tackler. They said I was all-in with me and they wanted me to come to their school.

"I was very excited about the offer. I don't know very much about Wyoming, but I am looking forward to knowing more about it."

The Bishop Gorman prep said he is hearing from schools across the nation from the ACC to the Pac-12, as well as other Mountain West schools. He visited Arizona last weekend and will be in Seattle to see Washington this weekend.

"I just want a school with good academics where I can get my schoolwork done, a family atmosphere where I am close with the other guys on the team, good coaches, and a place where I can win," he said.

Butler said he hopes to have a decision made before his senior year of football. He said distance isn't a concern for him given the fact he has lived in Washington, DC, New Jersey, St. Louis and now Las Vegas.

"I just want a school that cares about me and wants to see me succeed and has a good academics. I want to major in business management."

He added that this year he plans to work on his speed, hands and overall technique as a cornerback.
