I understand the cowgirls should never be satisfied to settle for a WNIT bid but after losing to Nevada, that is the current state of things. Either Boise or UNLV will get the automatic WNIT bid- given to the team with the best conference record that is not going to the NCAA tournament. If Nevada wins- that will be Boise and if BSU wins, that will be UNLV (which is why the Cowgirl loss to AF hurt so much).
MW will only send 1 team to the NCAA's- period. The 4 teams that have the best shot as getting a WNIT bid are as follows (listed alphabetically):
NM- RPI 88, 23-10 record (110-8 in conf.) bad losses in conf. to SJSU (278 RPI) and SDSU (271)
Sheep- RPI 114, 20-11 record (11-7)- no bad losses in conf.
UNLV- RPI 92, 19-11 (14-3)- lost to Nev (171- a 2nd time in tourney)
UW- RPI 74, 21-10 (13-5), bad losses to AF (290), SDSU (271), (Nev in tourney)
I left Fresno out RPI 145, 16-14 (11-7).
Cowgirls swept NM (inc. tourney), beat UNLV and split w/Boise and Sheep (and Fresno) so went 7-3 against the top 6 in conference. Cowgirl attendance 2nd best in the conference (NM is best) but going 1-3 in last 2 weeks doesn't help.
It will be a nail biter on monday
