Despite the debacle yesterday, the Cowboys remain tied for first place in the Mountain West with San Diego State (1/2 game up on Boise State) and didn't lose much ground with the RPI (good news), sitting around 70 with potential to move up quite a bit.

RPI was helped by some UW opponents winning, including Cal beating UCLA yesterday. New Mexico State is gradually moving up the RPI rankings in a weak league, but they are moving up because they are winning. SMU beat Tulsa yesterday . CU Blasted by Utah but the Buffs have a history of playing better in February and March under Boyle, plus they are getting back to full health.

Two areas for Poke fans to watch going forward: Obviously, the Pokes need to finish strong in the remaining 7 to 10 games, but also keep a close eye on non-league opponents in Cal, SMU, Colorado, and New Mexico State in particular. It seems like when one of these teams, especially the two PAC 12 teams register big wins, UW's RPI is reflected but as important the SOS gains ground. Still along ways to go for SOS but is gradually climbing and should continue to climb and can be aided by some of the non-league teams catching fire.

I think Nance and Herndon should be back soon and don't be surprised if both are suited up for San Diego State.

The Cowboys have the big game with SDSU on Wednesday, but then San Jose State on Saturday, followed by Nevada next week. Then 8 day bye before hosting Fresno State at home. Point here is there some time for Nance and Herndon get fully rested before the key final five game stretch leading into the tournament.

Link below to the CBS Sports article and mentioning the Cowboys in the final paragraph. Four MW teams in the mix for the NCAA right now.
