.....I know it's old hat for you guys, but for us to move to the next tier we need to scrap this offense and attack more. NCAA is talking about dropping to a :30-second shot clock, (still too long) so it may force Larry's hand. Ironically, when the Pokes made their "run" in the 2nd half, it was when we forced the tempo more and got up quicker shots--confidence seemed to come back. Hats off to UNI--they are a program I would hope we aspire to be (able to go uptempo when they need to, bu t also slow down + depth). Four years of Shyatt and while our starting core is decent, still no bench. Game observations: (1) Nance seemed awed or something by Tuttle's ability to change up shots--apparently strategy was to stay off him on defense to guard against guard penetration. One shot, one point in 1st half. He finally snapped out of it in 2nd half. (2). Good lord--I hope Shyatt turns Adams loose on the conference next year. He has a pro-style, attack-the-rim style of game that reminds me of former Knicks' player John Starks, and unless somebody really emerges, he's our only offensive-minded scorer.
Jeez--do we need a JC big guy who can either score or rebound next year or what? Gotta keep momentum right?
Pokes took advantage of a down conference (MWC is getting demolished in the post season) and a 152 strength of schedule--and made it work for them. We got in, and we were fricking due. I'm glad it was us who made the tourney and not the D-bags from Ft. Collins, who as it turned out were shrewd in scheduling for RPI, but stoned and lazy when it came to actually being any good. I still hate that so many teams (including us ) rely (insist?) on shooting 3's, when 10-12 footers are more reliable. Lots of points being given away there... UNI so far is one of the few teams in the tourney that seems willing to take those shots, and something as simple as that could help them get pretty far.
Go Pokes.
