Wyoming football picked up two 2018 commitments after a big visit weekend in Laramie. Quarterback Sean Chambers (Kerman, Cali.) and athlete Charles Hicks (San Diego) gave the UW coaching staff verbals on Tuesday night.
Both Chambers and Hicks visited Laramie this weekend and said they came away impressed with the overall program and had special visits. Chambers backed out of his commitment with Big 10 Rutgers to take the Pokes offer.
Chambers, a 6-foot-3 and 215 pound signal caller, originally committed to Rutgers in June and then opened his recruitment back up with the Pokes coming into the mix.
Kerman High School head coach Anthony Taylor broke down the quarterbacks ability with ScarletNation.com early this summer.
“Some of his strengths are his size and his speed. Last year, he tied the national record for longest run from the line of scrimmage, which went for 99 yards. He also has a cannon for an arm, good speed, good footwork," said Taylor. "Overall, he’s the total package. He could be a player that could come in and contribute right away at the college level and I really believe that. We have meetings every Sunday and he’s always in there right away breaking down film, picking out teams’ strengths and weaknesses."
Chambers had offers from Wyoming, Rutgers, Hawaii, and Fresno State. He was persuaded with the prospects of Josh Allen playing quarterback in coach Craig Bohl's system.
Hicks is a linebacker and wide receiver for Lincoln High School in San Diego, the same high school producing NFL great Marcus Allen.
"I want to thank all the coaches that have been recruiting me over the past weeks. After sitting down with my family and talking everything over, I'm happy to announce I'll be committing to the University of Wyoming," said Hicks.
The 2018 prospect is a versatile athlete looked at a number of positions in college and is mainly recruited by Cowboy assistant A.J. Cooper. Hicks had offers from Wyoming and Montana.
