For Jared Scott, Laramie, Wyoming provided the fit he was looking for. Between the coaches, the program and the familiar faces already on the team, the 6-foot-6, 215-pounder from Oak Park River Forest High School in Oak Park (Ill.) said Wyoming just stood out as the place for him.
“I could tell right away that the coaches take care of their players. The program is heading towards the top,” Scott said Wednesday. “I was also blown away by their business program and in talking to professors and the very reasonable class sizes. The team gpa being over a 3.0 was great to hear. I take academics seriously and being in a place where others do as well is comforting.”
Scott said he committed on Tuesday morning after Wyoming Head Coach Craig Bohl visited his home on Monday night. Scott said the visit sealed his choice.
“Coach Bohl told me he was waiting for my call and that I made his day,” Scott said. “Coach Bohl came to my house Monday night and I had a long conversation with him and my family about the process. After my visit, talking to him, my family and thinking a lot I knew that was the right place for me.”
Scott caught 45 passes for 521 yards and three scores last season to net All-Suburban Chicago honors. He held scholarship offers from Western Illinois and Wyoming. In addition to his time with Bohl, Scott said he also spent a lot of time talking to his current high school teammate Keyon Blankenbaker and Jahmari Moore about the program in Laramie. Blankenbaker will be attending Wyoming with Scott, while Moore is a redshirt freshman on the Wyoming program.
“Jahmari has been a mentor to me through the whole process,” Scott said. “He didn't want to steer me in any direction, he was always honest with me and did a great job exemplifying Wyoming football. He was super excited to have me and he actually was able to show me around my last night there. Keyon was also excited, we talked a lot about the program and everything when I came back.”
