CJ Coldon committed to the Wyoming football team - a couple times. The first time he tried, he said Wyoming Assistant Coach John Richardson didn’t believe it was for real.
“Coach Richardson was excited that I committed, but he thought I was joking around with him,” Coldon said. “I was like, ‘no coach, I am serious.’”
You will forgive Richardson for being skeptical as Coldon could go to any number of schools. Coldon is a 6-foot-1, 175-pound wideout from Althoff High School in Belleville (Ill.) who holds 13 scholarship offers and is listed as a three-star prospect from Rivals.com. Coldon’s recruiting grade of 5.5 ties him with Ryan Gatoloai as the top-ranked Wyoming recruit in its 2017 recruiting class.
Coldon was in Laramie this month to check out Wyoming during the Mountain West Conference Title game. He said it was during his visit that his eyes were opened to what Wyoming has to offer.
“Wyoming is building something special as we all seen these past two years,” Coldon said. “I wanted to be part of that and give the coaches a opportunity to coach me as they gave me the opportunity to play for them. The coaches are really one on one with the players and I know I won't be just another number there.”
Coldon said the decision to commit came to him on Sunday, as the Cowboy coaches visited him yesterday.
“I really felt like Wyoming was the right fit for me and my family was excited and happy for me and felt like I made the right choice,” Coldon said.
