Question: Why, after nearly two months from our huge, miraculous, unprecedented-in-15 years, re-defining-of-the-program NCAA tournament appearance, are we struggling (reluctant?) to fill a spot for a big man we can give big minutes to? Even if Matt Sellers had stayed, we were still going to need somebody who could actually play that position.
Everything is roses in Laramie--our program is top tier MWC, we've got a coach that will soon be extended through 2097, a two-guard that should easily get 18-plus per game, and a freshman class that everyone here says will crush it. Seems to me that there should be a few players out there with more ability than Grandy Glaze or Mitch Kupchak’s kid lining up to get here. We don’t need Hakeem Olajuwon—just somebody with better resume’s than we’re getting so far.
My concern is that we’re not building off the NCAA tournament appearance, and whatever tiny bit of momentum created by last season is going to be squandered much like the days of Steve McClain. Maybe it's not even important. There are different dynamics this time around—McClain’s inability to sign frontcourt help was far worse, but Shyatt isn't being pursued by anybody, so there's no distractions, and his future here will always be safe. Admittedly, the crop of fifth year senior transfers is small, but decent JC’s apparently are off-limits (or gone). Maybe UW doesn’t get a NCAA tournament recruiting “bounce?" Maybe the plan is to only get to the NCAA’s every four years….we're thin at the 5, opportunity is knocking, and so far we've brought in....
Grandy Glaze…wow. No hack on the kid—he brings what he brings—but unlike a lot of posters here, I was nervous we were actually GOING TO GET the kid. We actually offered and brought him in for a visit? He punts on two D-1 schools that actually go places for Grand Canyon? Who assessed that kid?
At this point, I’d even take Mory Correa or Omonyi Makun…
