While Akil Francisco is a verbal commitment to Hawaii, he is also making sure the Islands are the right place for him. He is doing that by comparing Hawaii with the University of Wyoming through conversations with coaches and perhaps through an official visit this weekend.

Francisco said an official is still up in the air, but he is in conversations with Wyoming’s coaches about checkin out Laramie for himself this weekend. The 6-foot-1, 155-pound athlete managed four interceptions on defense last year while accounting for 960 all-purpose yards and eight touchdowns on offense for his Encinal High School football team in Alameda, CA. For his efforts he holds scholarship offers from Wyoming, Hawaii, and Sacramento State.

“They have had interest in me,” Francisco said of Wyoming. “Coach (John) Richardson has built a relationship with me over the summertime. They saw me at a camp at Costa Contra and so did Hawaii. Coach Richardson is a good guy, a cool guy. He isn’t forcing anything on me. He just suggested I take a visit to compare the schools and weigh my options so to speak.

“I just want to compare the relationships between players and coaches and to really see if Hawaii or Wyoming is somewhere I want to be for the next four years,” Francisco said. “I am hoping to see more of their facilities, campus and see what it is like out there.”

Francisco said Wyoming’s Wide Receivers Coach Mike Grant has also been in contact and last week stopped for an in-home visit where he once again offered to host Francisco on an official visit to Laramie.

“It wasn’t what he had to say as much,” Francisco said when asked what about Grant’s visit made him consider a visit to Laramie. “I am just trying to respect their opinion on comparing the two schools and weighing my options. Both of them are very good options at this point.”

Francisco has been to Hawaii already during the month of December where he said he developed a stronger relationship with the coaches and other players. During that visit he also met current Wyoming commit Victor Jones, who he said is also talking to him about Wyoming.

“He (Jones) likes the relationship he was able to build at Wyoming,” Francisco said. “If I do end up taking a trip. I’ll see what he was talking about.”
