Berekeley (Ca.) St. Mary's linebacker Aaron Mercadel visited Laramie last week and came away impressed with the school and program had to offer.

The 6-foot-1 and 185 pound athlete made his trip to the Rockies for a visit of the UW campus and looked at the football program.

"Right now Wyoming is tops on my list after I checked it out," said Mercadel. "I like some of the activites the area has to present with outdoor things like fishing and hunting. I thought the area was nice and open, and refreshing from the big city lights."

Mercadel received an offer from Wyoming, along with conference foe Air Force. He also holds offers from Montana and North Dakota State, with the Cowboys his top choice right now.

"I thought the mix of the coaching staff and facilities had Wyoming standout," said Mercadel. "The facilities were more impressive than I had thought they would be on my visit. The coaching staff has had success at North Dakota State and have a plan to make them good."

Mercadel looks to be a prospect as either a linebacker or safety. Because of his lack of size, while possessing good athleticism, he'll need to add weight to play linebacker in the Mountain West Conference. Safety could be an option with his athleticism, quickness, and overall burst.

Mercadel registered 107 tackles, three sacks and four fumble recoveries during his junior season in 2013, while playing in the box with the ability to avoid blocks and use effective angles.
