1. Would have been nice for Brian Hill to set the school single-season rushing record, but he came up 57 yards short. And from a selfish standpoint I'm glad he did. Why? Because I want to be in the stands and witness that record, and be part of a crowd that shows Brian the appreciation he truly deserves for what he has done and will do as a member of the Cowboys.
2. Cameron Coffman returned, but what I was reminded of quickly is he has a strong arm and given time he can hit his receivers, but he does not move well, and seems to stay focused on a primary receiver, not picking up 2ndary guys who might not be set up for long gains but at least could gain a couple of yards. The end result? Five sacks, four on the first four drives.
3. On the subject of the offense, 1-for-13 on third down is not going to get the job done. No excuses. No ifs ands or buts. Don't think that's talking out of school. That job has to get done to be competitive, much less a championship team.
4. Eddie Yarborough is going out on top. Cowboys were lucky to get Eddie. Arizona State jerked his scholarship offer on signing day, and Yaborough called then-Wyoming coach Marty English to ask if the Cowboys were still interested. They were, And as fans we are thanful. Eddie had his 37th career tackle for a loss on Saturday, a school record.
5. Wingard is part of what excites me about the future. The young man had his seventh double digit tackle game. He knows where the ball is and makes the play. He has the ability and personality to be a big-time leader in the locker room for the rebirth of Cowboys football. I prefer to ignore the fumbled punt. The young man does way too much to be sidetracked. Thank you Lord for delivering this young man to Cowboys football.
6. On the subject of young DBs, I like the way Priester plays. He's got a chip on his shoulder and he's not going to backdown. He made the big mistake against CSU. After Higgins cheap shotted him, Priester retaliated. And we all know it's the second punch that the officials see (except of course if it is Flo and then he would quickly pick up on the first incident). After a short cooling off period against CSU, Priester returned to that game and was in the lineup on Saturday in San Diego. And he's not backing down. It's not his DNA.
7. Lucas Wacha was an addition to the program who was in limbo at one point with the Dave Christensen staff. For whatever reason the situation was resolved, Lucas arrived and for that we can be thankful. He is undersized at middle linebacker, but he has a heart big enough for the job, and comes up with big and hard hits just the same. Can't wait to see one more year of this young man in Brown and Gold.
8. A congratulations to placekicker Tristan Bailey. He got a chance for a field goal on Saturday and kicked the 31-yarder. It was only his second FG in eight attempts. Nobody wears that more than he does. Glad he came through.
9. Off week comes late, but it's something the Cowboys need. They can get some aches and pains eased before the season finale against UNLV, including Hill, who took a couple big-time hits at San Diego State.
10. Okay, my campaign. CSU announced 15,641 for its home finale and it has bowl potential. Word is actually attendance might have been 12,000. Let's find the energy and get to the War for one last time this year on Nov. 28. The Eight seniors deserve a strong send off for staying the course. The returning players need to realize how much we care. And it's not a trip for just a football game. Kickoff is noon for the football Cowboys and tip off is 7 p.m., for the basketball Cowboys and thier game against Montana State.
