1. Encouraged by the play of the defense for better part of three quarters. It is young and energetic. Only two senior starters -- Yarbrough and Hal'Api'Api. Without sustained drives by offense, however, and with critical turnovers it did wear down.
2. Coffman throws a nice pass but is not very mobile and with a young offensive line that is a growing concern. It's one thing to be sacked four times, but for a total of 27 yards? It's a killer. In the 3rd-and-long don't we have to realize they are coming full speed and have to check off quickly?
3. Man that Wingard is going to be so speical. Had his third double figure tackle day.
4. Lucas Wacha at MLB has made a difference with his emotions and quickness. Unfortunately he left iwth a concussion. Hope it is not serious for him for life reasons as well as Cowboy football reasons. Before his departure he had nine tackles and two of them were for losses.
5. Ethan Wood has developed into a weapon as a punter. Not only did he average 47.1 yards per kick but four of his eight kicks were downed inside the 20. He did what he could to keep us in good field position.
6. Tristian Bailey returned home and nailed a 41 yard field goal. No questions. Had length and direction. Showed he has the leg. Needs the confidence. It is something to build on.
7. Offense has to convert third downs. 2-for-12? Not acceptable. 0-for-6 in first half? Not acceptable.
8. There is youth and it is talented. I love the likes of Wingard, Hull, Prosser, Granderson, Pilapil, Marinsky, Jennings, Epps all defensive players. All have three more years of eligiblity.
9. And you can't deny youth. Consider 54 players appeared in Saturday's game, and only seven were seniors. There were 14 true freshman, 11 redshirt freshmen, eight sophomores, 14 juniors and the seven seniors. If these young men have the commitment to not be swayed by this year's struggles there is a foundation there.
10. One penalty in first half, a major improvement. Man, I understanding it is a growing process, but that doesn't make it fun and games.
