1. Nothing hurts as much as a game where it was evident the Cowboys were good enough to win but they are thier own worst enemy. And that's why this game is painful. Appy State won and deserved to win but Cowboys lost it just as much as Appy won it. When you rush for more yards, pass for more yards and have time of possession on your side you are supposed to win.
2. Coffman is a strong armed quarterback and he is accurate. Was hoping he'd take more of a leadership role. He is, after all, a senior and came here to play one year. I know the line has a lot to do with it, but the sacks are a problem. And it's not just a yard or two, but it's drive-changing sacks, 10, 15 yards. Sometimes you have to be aware and get rid of the ball.
3. Cowboys are in the Red Zone five times and score once. They miss a field goal, have an interception and two times march backwards. A team works to get in the Red Zone and has to find a way to score when it does get there.
4. The place kicking needs attention. Not sure what has happened with that position, but we miss a 40-year attempt one time and the next time, on 4th down we go for it instead and turn ball over on downs. Those two field goals and we are in the game.
5. There is reason to be excited about the young players. Andrew Wingard, a freshman from Arvada, Colo., is a game-changer. He has a knack for being where the ball is and he isn't afraid to hit. With ffeshmen Marcus Epps, and Windard and sophomore Robert Priester the defensive backfield is going to be a strength.
6. Lucas Wacha moved into the middle linebacker role and it made a difference. He brought an emotion and confidence to the position. The defense clicked better with him in the middle, and D.J. May is really adaptng quickly to the move to linebacker. They will be nails for their senior season.
7. Brian Hill is Brian Hill. His leg was bothering him and he still went for 208 yards on 30 carries. He's a force out of the back field. I like the fact we ran the wildcat again.
8. And like it or not there is youth. The Cowboys had 54 players appear on Saturday, and only eight were seniors. There were 22 freshman, 10 sophomores and 14 juniors.
9. Nice to see in the Casper paper that the nine commitments are not wavering about enrolling next year. Chandler Garrett looks like an impact quarterback, and is working on recruits, giving the Cowboys an ambassador in Oklahoma.
10. At least Colorado State lost at Utah State and was the victim of self-inflicted damage. Rams are now 2-3. the Rams QB situation appears to be uncertain, at best. Oh, it would be so nice to bring the boot back home where it belongs.
