Linder Lost us that game

I don't care if it was my grandma, after she made the 2nd or 3rd shot I would start guarding her. To continually choose to leave a division 1 basketball player wide open after they have proved time and again they are capable of making a shot is absurd. I understand we are limited in bodies but that was absolutely sickening. Allowing Becker wide open shots all night and with the way the first half ended gave AF all the momentum. And yes I blame Linder for the sequence at the end of the first half. You ABSOLUTELY can't allow your team to make such a silly mistake, we gave AF 12 seconds when we could have basically taken last shot.

Still a Linder believer but this game was on him.

A very dangerous time

This began as a season of great expectations (RIP my Houston hotel reservation). It then turned into a "what the hell was that" sort of thing after the early non-conference troubles. Then it morphed into a "typical Wyoming season when we get our hopes up" type of vibe, then slowly slid into a bit of disbelief and bargaining as we all tried to see a way through the mess if the injuries would let up a bit. But then something nastier happened as the team looks to have just sort of quit following the close calls against UNM and SDSU. The team we've seen for the past week is simply not competitive. And, as WyoCrazy smartly showed in a thread below, it's not all because of youth. Air Force's young guys basically creamed our young guys last night. The second half was a shit show.

Now, I'm concerned we're on the knife's edge of something really dangerous. The end of this season, and the coming off-season, seem to have come to a fork in the road with two basic options. The first path is one in which this season is judged as a complete outlier. Ike makes it clear he'll return and rehabs over the summer. There will be some roster flux, but we all basically say this season was snake bit and we flush it and move on.

The second path is the ugly one, and it's becoming frighteningly possible. That is a path of total program collapse. This team is in a bad place. The effort is bad, and the scheme does not look good. I am certain our locker room is not a positive place to be right now. If we only win 1 or 2 games the rest of the way, can the program as currently constituted survive? I'm not sure.

I don't mean the trustees pull the pin and we shut it all down. I mean does something radical happen with Linder? If this team goes 6-25 or some crazy thing, is Linder still here next year? Is Ike? I don't know where they'd go, or how it would happen, but it seems like a catastrophic season might bring catastrophic consequences. Guys like Reynolds, Oden and Wenzel would have lots of suitors in the portal. This could get really ugly - much uglier than it is right now.

I hope Linder finds a way to turn this around. The Border War at home is the best opportunity. If we don't take care of that, going 0-for conference becomes a real issue.

This is not good.

CSU and San Diego Soon.

Watching it Soon. Men, the Big East Teams, so loaded, they will have many teams in the Biggie in March. Houston, who have they played? Not that impressed. Michigan State, Arizona hum, could be hanging around. Duke and No. Carolina Tarheels, ouch remains to be studied. Gonzaga? Not prime time.

P.S. Praying the Pokes can salvage a dismal injury ladened season. We can't fault Coach Linder. Get Well Maldonado.

Pokes at the Half at Academy.

36-32, Pokes, AF closed at the half with a last second 3. I tuned in a tad late and didn't see Maldonado, not sure if injury or illness. Team playing fairly well, with others getting court time with all our injuries.
Go Pokes.

Just watched K-State over in Manhattan, Ks take down Numero 2 Kansas, bit of a shock in the Beeg 12.

Kansas State now 16-2, Kansas 16-2.

Final Overtime, 83-82.

Cowgirls

At Nevada tonight at 7:30 MT & here at home against UNLV on Thursday at 6:30 MT. I think that last UNLV game was closer than the final score showed. Perhaps the Cowgirls can pull off the win at home. UNLV is in first place at 6-0. Cowgirls are tied for second place with SD & CSU at 4-1.
