Burman's dilemma....

Burman's dilemma has become UW's 900 lb gorilla in the room.

This is a problem that Burman made, pure and simple. He hooked the UW wagon, lot, stock and barrel and a lot of money (for us) to Bohl's wagon, and he overspent. We are now tied into a coach that has us stuck in a mediocre part of the conference and can't get himself or the program out of it. I am hoping that as some others have suggested that Bohl will retire after this season, oh yes please Bohl retire!

The UW athletic department talks about "excellence" and excellence needs the fan base to help with the expenses. The problem is that this talk of excellence has NEVER, and I do mean NEVER been shown on the football gridiron at UW during Burman's tenure as the AD. It has been over 30 years since UW last captured a football championship! On top of this, for years now we have rarely even been in the upper echelon of the MWC in the football standings and yet the Wyoming fan base has been one of the most generous group of fan bases in the MWC. What have we gotten for this investment? Zero championships, rarely do we finish in the upper echelons of the MWC, but we have some of the best facilities. I thought the facilities were supposed to allow us to bring in the type of athletes that would make us more competitive. Well, it hasn't and there does not appear to be anyone held accountable at UW for these constant failures. Yes I will call them failures if we haven't won a conference football championship in over 30 years and there is nothing on the horizon that appears to change this and our AD stays mum on everything.

Your talk of excellence upon the gridiron is hollow UW. Lately Burman has become like Howard Hughes, has anyone actually heard from Tom Burman about anything affecting the football program in years now? If my memory serves me correctly he was quoted a while back about the possible merger between the MWC and the PAC, but as usually he said nothing of consequence, just a lot of meaningless public speak. It sure does appear that Bohl is Burman's boss, instead of the other way around.

HOW we get to the MWC Dec Game: 2.0

CURRENT MWC
Air Force Falcons:4-0 Maybe 8-0-- need them to beat Boise State at the end or USU beats Boise
Fresno State:3-1 Maybe 6-2.
UNLV 4-1 Maybe 5-3.
Boise State 3-2 Maybe 5-3; Boise needs to lose to AFA at the end of the season or USU upsets Boise.
San Jose State 3-2 Maybe 5-3: SAN JOSE must beat Fresno on November 11
Wyoming 3-2 MAYBE 6-2 Wyoming must win out. We would have the tie breaker vs Fresno, but not against Boise!

****FORECAST**** end of season
BOISE 5-3
at Fresno L Fresno beat Boise on 11-4-2023
NM W
at USU W--Utah State beating Boise would be great!!! and avoids the AFA drama!!
AFA L AFA Must Beat Boise--unless USU beat them the week before

FRESNO: 6-2--Wyoming gets the tie breaker
Boise W
@SJSU L
NM W
@SDSU W

UNLV: 5-3
@NM W
WYO L
@AFA L/W-but if Pokes beat UNLV it doesn't matter if UNLV beats AFA.
SJSU W

SAN JOSE STATE 5-3
Fresno W
SDSU W
UNLV L

AFA 8-0
Hawaii: W
UNLV : W
Boise State: W

IF THREE TEAMS ARE 6-2: The tie breaker if Wyoming, Boise and Fresno are all 6-2 favors Fresno I believe because of their higher rankings --computer model standing

Sean just threw another TD in Bozeman....

It is 41 to nothing in the 2nd quarter, and no I do not want Brent Vigen to be the next HC at Wyoming. Brent Vigen is doing well at the FCS level and I wish him all the best there. I would hope that we could get a HC that is not one of the hot young FBS assistants, they never stay long enough to unpack their bags. But maybe an older assistant at a successful FBS level who is up on FBS play right now, not in the past like Bohl. I am hoping that if he is successful that he might want to stay, and I mean actually having a winning record and maybe every once in a while actually winning a conference championship, WOW what aspirations I know.

Bohl's record in year 10 after the 10th game of the season...

Overall Bohl is 58-60 at this point in time, which equates to a 49% winning percentage overall.

Within conference, Bohl has as 35-41 record at this point in time, which equates to a 46% winning percentage within conference.

We all know that Bohl's record is dismal when competing against teams with a winning percentage.

Within conference we are even more of a non-player, as in 10 years Bohl has produced ZERO championships and only 3 seasons with a winning record. Seven of Bohl's 10 seasons as head coach, Wyoming has been at .500 or below within the conference. We have only appeared in one conference championship game and of course we lost that game.

Bohl has not produced one overall winning season with double digits. Three of the seasons his teams had 8 wins, and two seasons his team had 7 wins (thank heavens for those early season lacky's that we play!) For instance, in 2021 when we were 7-6 overall our conference record was 2-6.

Frankly to keep Bohl as the HC for this length of time, Tom and UW has clearly indicated that they have ZERO expectations for winning championships. The only thing that matters is being competitive (at certain times) and that Wyoming becomes bowl eligible.

Speaking of bowl eligibility, it is vastly unfair to Wyoming coaches in the past like Roach and Tiller to be compared to Bohl. Those two coaches were coaching in a time where there were way fewer bowl games. I remember one season where UW had a 10-win season and they were not invited to any bowl game, and that would not happen now! I am tired of hearing UW crow about how many bowl games Bohl has taken UW to.

Wyoming vs St. Louis Univ. Billikens in S. Carolina...

The first team the Pokes will face in the Myrtle Beach Invitational tournament on Thursday @ noon MST will be the St. Louis Univ. Billikens.

As I said earlier the Billikens are 3-0 at this point in the new season., having played all of their games at home so far:

1st game was vs Southern Indiana which the Billikens won, 75-63 and they were led by a 6'-5" Sr. F., Terrance Hargrove who had 27 pts.

2nd game was vs Lincoln (MO) which the Billikens won, 102-66 and they were led by a 6'-3" Jr. G., Sincere Parker who had 20 pts.

3rd game was vs Illinois State which the Billikens won, 80-71 and they were led by a 6' -5" Jr. G., Gibson Jimerson who had 20 pts.

All of these scoring totals by their top scorer in each of the games were their career highs. Also noticed that the Billikens appeared to start off fast as looking at the box scores they led at halftime in each of their games. Illinois State actually outscored the Billikens in the 2nd half of their game as the Billikens held the Red Birds off to win the game.

So this game will be the 1st for both Wyoming and St. Louis away from the confines of their home courts. The game will be shown on ESPN 2.

Cal poly @ Wyoming

Anything to get that bad taste out of my mouth from last night...

What are your thoughts on tonight's game? This should be a better test than northern new Mexico but I did see DU beat cal poly by 20 or so.

I was impressed with game 1 for this new team and hope to see more of that tonight. I would hope we can handle them as well as DU did.

Excited to watch all these new players on the hardwood again.

A play to define the season.

Imagine being down 14 with 10 minutes to go in a game and you are driving in the opponent's territory. You run a bad play on 3rd and 3 but alas its now 4th and 3. Shoot, bad play but guess what? We have another down to gain 3 yards with Harrison Waylee. Any damned football coach worth anything would go for it. YOU ARE DOWN TWO SCORES, a field goal means you are still down two scores. Craig Bohl trots out the kicker who has missed something like 7 of his last 8 or some damned thing. Shank. Ball game. Am I too negative? This sort of thing has happened all damned season and better part of the past 10 friggin years.
