Dalton Knecht from N. Colorado....

Dalton Knecht is a 6'-6" guard that transferred from Northern Colorado to the University of Tennessee and one of the announcers called him today the most impactful transfer in men's basketball this year! The young man was born in Thornton, CO. but grew up in Fargo, N.D. Today he led the Tennessee Volunteers over Georgia in the SEC. I remember hearing that there was a young man transferring from N. Colorado but I didn't hear we were trying to get him and I didn't know that he settled on going to Tennessee. He is a really heady player and I would have loved to see him play for us, today his stats were:

In 34 minutes he shot 60% from the floor, was 62.5% from the 3 point line. He was 77.8% from the FT line, had 4 rebounds and 3 assists and 1 block and 1 PF and 1 TO, and only scored 36 points.

Man-O-Man, why couldn't UW have gotten someone like him?

Random notes

First, there is an interesting article in the Annals of Wyoming (Fall 2023) pertaining to the history of War Memorial, Corbett Field, and related athletic grounds. Does not appear available online, but interesting should you see one laying around

Second and pertaining to recent comments regarding the state of the wrestling team- As others have said, it does appear they have some good, young talent, though there is some injuries. Recent rankings have Poke wrestlers at #4, #20, #21, and #31.

Of note, Novak was recently ranked as high as fifteen. Interesting in that he lost a respectable match to AJ Ferrari (a household name in collegiate wrestling both because of his talent and all the drama surrounding him). Novak also lost a match in the Reno tournament to #2 ranked Buchanan…yes, the same Buchanan that finished third for Wyoming at the NCAAs before him and another Wyoming wrestler followed an assistant coach to OU. Novak is sitting at 16 wins on the year.

As an aside and if Buchanan remained at UW, imagine Wyoming having two top five wrestlers…it would be a completely different year as a team. Those transfers are still really hurting the program.

It should also be noted that Volk previously defeated the #1/#4 wrestler from Arizona State (depending on poll) to win the Reno tournament. Volk has 17 victories on the year, to include seven against ranked opponents.
