Positives from BYU game.

1. It was a beautiful night in War Memorial. You really cant beat September football weather.
2. The game wasnt the Presidential debate. Sure Wyoming was killed but you didnt have to listen to those two idiots argue.
3. Game was close for a while. Pokes played with some fire and were spirited at least for a quarter. Rook Brown made some good plays right up until a bogus targeting call.
4. Good to see John Mike out there. No targets mainly because our quarterback is not capable of getting him the ball, but he was back.
5. Had us a Jaylen Sargent sighting. He wowed em' in camp every year and despite all those drops we can see he fills out a uniform nicely. Gots to love those kinda guys that fill out the uniform.
6. Speaking of uniforms, can UW just retire #17? Josh Allen is the most positive thing to happen to UW in the last 50 years, that number should never be worn again especially by some joker that couldnt wear Josh's jock strap. Retire #17!!! And keep Josh's name out you mouth, you clowns. Saw and Evan, never mention him again. Josh Allen is hallowed ground.
7. This coaching hire is the best opportunity for the "malcontents" in the Wyoming fanbase to rid ourselves of an AD that has overstayed his welcome. It's now or never. TB has got to go!!

Half Measures

Before the start of the season I truly thought that Coach Sawvel was a good HC hire, he’d keep stability in the program and he appeared to have brought in a decent OC with P4 experience. With Aaron Bohl as the DC, we should a team that could match at least last season’s success. What we got was a HC that is in over his head, never having been a HC before, an OC that was let go for a good reason and finally a DC that is only in the position because of his dad. Finally, all of this was approved by the AD. No coaching search to speak of and decided very quickly on a matter of a couple weeks. It’s like “what was the last decade under Bohl for if we’re now back or below where we started?” How in the world was this basically the same team that won 9 games last year?

To me, it has to be the coaching and the way they were selected was a half measure. You can’t do this on the cheap and just assume that the HC who has never been a HC before is going to take over the program and be successful.

However the conference shakes out and if Wyoming is still FBS, face it we’re starting over. No more half measures, you’ll need to pay a HC at least in the $2.5-3 million mark and you need to put a lot of effort to get a coach that likes what Wyoming has to offer and they want to build the program. After 3 games this season, I’ve seen enough to know that Wyoming better go with someone else to start next year.

But I worry that UW will keep doing the half measure approach…

Go Pokes!

Sawvel's comments after the game...

There were a number of comments but one in particular stuck out to me, and that was how we need to stick with Svoboda because he gives us the best chance of winning. If Svoboda gives us the best chance of winning then Anderson must really stink because Svoboda is by far one of the absolute worst QBs in America. I am utterly blown away as to how bad this Wyoming offense is. It was obvious during the early parts of the game Wyoming was trying to stay away from the passing game. If you have confidence in your QB you don't stay away from the passing game, but that was what happened. Wyoming was forced into attempting more passes as the game went along because our run game was pathetic.

The first Wyoming TD was earned by the offense, but the second was our first team offense scoring against their 2nd and 3rd team defense! One of their DB's had his hands on two different passes by Svoboda during that drive and couldn't hold onto them! Also BYU with their reserves in made some critical penalties. If BYU really wanted to keep Wyoming from scoring on them later in the game all they would of had to do was leave their 1st team defense in. The BYU head coach must have taken pity on Wyoming, but it was obvious early on that BYU didn't fear Wyoming's offense because they went for a 4th down a few times.

I hated this game this night as there were BYU fans right behind me yelling and really enjoying the game, and the only thing I could do was take it. They weren't rude or nasty, but they certainly enjoyed BYU's dominance over us!

The best thing all evening?

The UW band at halftime!

The tail of two programs.....one school did everything that they could years ago to be on the path for bigger things, and the other program, played it safe, stayed conservative, never took any chances, and now is left in the dust of the first school.

I have watched UW slowly take steps down in competition and performance and tonight was the example of how BYU has left us behind. They don't respect us, their AD didn't even use his box for any guests. BYU started putting in 2nd and 3rd team defense players in the 2nd half and that is the ONLY WAY that UW scored its second TD. This game should have been a lot worse but BYU called off the dogs! One of their DB's even had two chances for interceptions on that drive and wasn't able to hang on.

One thing is for sure, that is the last time BYU will play in Laramie. We are such a non-player in collegiate sports it isn't funny. I feel so depressed to see how far this program has digressed.
